2027 Legislative Session

With the 2027 session starting in January, North Dakota lawmakers are shaping key AI and data center bills. The interim AI and Data Center Committee has recommended an AI bill that would require AI tools to disclose they aren’t human, create a seven-member state AI Council and set up a regulatory sandbox for testing new products. A separate proposal on children’s chatbots was held for more work. Rep. Anna Novak is also drafting data center legislation covering electricity costs, water use and decommissioning.
